As part of a major rebranding, Facebook has announced the change of its corporate name to Meta. The company stated that the decision would “encompass” what it does as it expands its reach beyond social media into fields such as Virtual Reality (VR).
The move doesn’t affect the company’s platforms, such as Facebook, Instagram, and Whatsapp; rather, it only affects the parent company that oversees them.
The company has taken this step following a succession of unfavorable headlines about Facebook based on documents leaked by an ex-employee.
The company prioritizes “earnings before safety,” said Frances Haugen. Google restructured its corporation in 2015, calling its parent company name Alphabet; however, the name has not changed.

Our company is now “Meta”
Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Facebook, unveiled the new name after announcing plans to create a “metaverse.” People can use VR headsets to play games, work, and communicate in a virtual environment.
He claimed that the current brand couldn’t “could represent everything that we’re doing today, never alone in the future,” and that it needed to be replaced.
“Over time, I hope that we are regarded as a metaverse firm, and I want to anchor our identity and work on what we’re building towards,” he said at a virtual conference.
What is a metaverse?
“We’re now looking at and reporting on our company as two separate parts, one for our apps family and the other for our efforts on future platforms.”
As a result, it’s time for us to adopt a new corporate name that encompasses all we do and reflects who we are and what we aspire to achieve. “I am pleased to announce that our firm is now Meta,” says the CEO.
People in a metaverse
To others, a metaverse may seem like a virtual reality simulation, yet some believe it is the internet’s future. People in the metaverse could utilize a headset instead of a computer to access a virtual world that connects all kinds of digital environments.
We believe that Meta can be used for almost everything, including business, recreation, and entertainment, as well as connecting with friends and family.
